Recap of 2010

So ... looking back on the year at a glance ... Grayson started a new job with Havenhill Homes, ran his first FULL marathon, went on two bike trips to Moab and ran a couple dozen derbies . Jen started blogging (140 posts for the year) and making muvees again. Landon got his braces off, started 9th grade, and is now totally acting like a teenager with constant texting and crushes on girls. Callahan got braces ON this year and kept busy with basketball all year round. Keaton tried his hand at baseball, and is enjoying basketball too. Cooper had a run in on the playground and broke his arm. He played soccer spring and fall, and is OBSESSED with basketball. Colton played soccer in the summer. He started his second year of preschool and needs constant playdates to keep him occupied while his brothers are in school.

2010 was a year without diapers, hurray! Colton finished up his potty training at the end of 2009, and after 15 years straight, we are done with diapers. There was lots of swimming in the summer ... we discovered Kearn's waterpark and bid farewell to the West Jordan Middle School pool. Dad and four boys vacationed in Seattle and Moab.

Jen discovered PIZZA ... ok still not regular, tomato sauce pizza, but just a white sauce with cheese. It's a family favorite now (was Mountain Mikes until they closed down, but Dominos has a good dinner deal). The Ipod TOUCH hit the family ... fun apps and texting ... and we can't forget to mention the introduction of Netflix to the home, which changed the way we watch (or rather, don't watch) tv.

In the extended family ... Maga moved! We've enjoyed more space in the new house when we visit. Clay and Courtney moved too. Grandma Henry passed away. Grandpa Norman passed away, Uncle Chris is going through a divorce and Derek and Danielle gave the boys a new little cousin.

A Blackham Christmas

...well ... I did NOT get Christmas cards out AGAIN ... I may still try to, sort of a New Years thing, we'll see *Ü* With Facebook, I have reconnected with many friends from high school and college, and have connected with their blogs, so I've been able to see their families grow throughout the year, not just in the annual Christmas card. But, I also DID receive a few cards from long lost (non-FB) friends and I was thrilled to see their family photos. So if YOU are one who actually got cards out, I commend you, and just want to let you know I treasure them (even if you don't get one from me in return).

I have to say, I've had a difficult time getting into the Christmas spirit, for many years now. Keaton was the one who got out all the decorations, and we only got about 1/8 of the ornaments hung on the tree. I did get into the holiday baking ... and consequent eating ... I did NOT go overboard on the presents, just ask the kids! I don't really think they were disappointed, but they were also not overly impressed. Colton however was THRILLED with a gift I received ... and Ipod Touch. Even though there were FOUR already in the home (Dad and brothers) the poor little guy didn't get enough "Angry Birds" playing time, but now he will. Basketball stuff, electronic Monopoly, Legos and Toy Story stuff seemed to be the theme of the gifts this year ... that and underwear ... Landon and Callahan were happy with their new underwear and undershirts (and Keaton was sad he didn't get any!).

We always have a PreChristmas party at Pammys. Christmas Eve is spent with the Westra clan. We play "The Candy Bar" game at both activities, but they are different versions. There is always a family slideshow recapping the photos from the year. The pictures are also featured on a calendar, an annual gift to Mom&Dad. We usually dress the kids up in nativity costumes ... but we didn't get around to that this year.

Christmas morning we awaited the kids bursting in ... 7:00, 7:30, 8:00 ... seriously? Sleeping in until 8:00? Unheard of! We finally opened presents at home, then went up to Maga's for a few more gift exchanges. We presented Maga with Apple TV ... Grayson would very much like it for OUR house, but we need to upgrade the television first.

And there it is ... another Christmas season come and gone ... Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas, next up ... New Years ...

For Santa

... left out the night before,
looks like Santa had his little snack before moving on ...

Neighbor Gifts

I wasn't sure we were going to get the traditional "neighbor" gifts out this year. Our gift for the past several years has been a roll of wrapping paper, but I didn't have a stock of them this year (although I had a few). Gray suggested gingersnaps (I'd already made several batches a week or so earlier, and we had given several plates of them away already). I ended up making a couple batches of "cookie press" cookies and some candied popcorn. So, Daddy and the boys loaded up with Santa hats on head to deliver the goodies. Landon had introduced "Skookie" to his friends earlier in the year, and we had picked up some pans to give to his best buddies. Callahan picked out (and paid for with his own money) some little presents for his friends at school. We weren't very organized, giving out our hodgepodge collection of things, I'm sure we missed some ... I guess I'm just glad we got SOMETHING out at all. The boys actually really like this activity ... they hang on the side of the car (outside) with the back open. As Dad stops, they hop off and run up to the door for the delivery. This all makes Mommy nervous ... she usually stays home ... Thanks to all for all the yummy treats and holiday gifts we received... I know I ate too much. Merry Christmas to all!

Columbia Christmas Program

During December, the kids at the elementary school are busy practicing songs for the annual Christmas program. Callahan was quite excited, saying that the sixth grade portion was fun. Keaton had been filling our home with the sound of "Jingle Bells" on the recorder, and Cooper said he knew all the words to "Up on the Housetop" ... so like all the other parents, I went to go see our kids perform. Now there is congestion at the school when parents are just dropping off and picking up kids ... you can imagine what it is like when all the parents come at the same time and stay! There was NO parking, I actually had to go down to the Arctic Circle about a quarter mile away to find a spot. The snowy weather didn't help. But I did pull out my trusty camera and captured a bit of the show on video ... I reduced the hour plus program to under a minute *Ü* They started with the 6th graders, so Callahan is up first, Keaton is in the middle (as usual) and Cooper is last.

Happy Birthday Colton!

December birthdays are hard ... they tend to get lost in the hustle and bustle of Christmas prep. It was December 20th when Colton decided to enter the world. Personally, I was more than willing to keep him in until after Christmas ... even until after January 1st, but I guess he had other ideas. His actual due date was Dec24 ... Christmas Eve, but our little lump of Christmas Coal Colton (well, if you call nine pounds six ounces LITTLE) came a few days early ... AND in the middle of the night. Luckily we had gotten the ok from our babysitter to call at any hour, and at least there was no traffic on the slippery roads at 3:00 a.m. We were admitted to the hospital and called the grandparents, waking them and having them come out, only to have the labor slow. Colton didn't make his appearance until a little after 9:00 in the morning.

Now Colton is FIVE years old, such a big boy! Of course, I still call him my "baby" and I probably always will. If you look back through pictures, you'll probably see a little blue blanket and a binky in many of them. Even though Colton was four years old, I just hadn't gotten around to forcing him to give them up, and he was still quite attached. Daddy told Colton that he couldn't turn five years old if he still had his binky and blankey ... Colton promptly turned them over to Daddy (and Daddy hid them away, not telling Mommy where in case she had a weak moment). So far so good, Colton quit them, cold turkey.

Colton got a cool digital camera from Maga, some money (he has multiple banks and wallets) and a flashlight from Grandma and Grandpa, some MoonSand from cousins. We had a cake and sang Happy Birthday both Sunday and Monday night. Colton also got a noisy gun, a bow and arrow, some legos, the ToyStory3 game for DS and some candy. Colton had been to a couple birthday parties for friends this year and wanted to know when his "friend" party would be .... hmmmm, next year?

Basketball Begins

Basketball season has begun ... with Callahan playing basketball year round, basketball never really ends for the Blackham family. But during the winter months, it's ALL the Blackham boys, and Callahan plays on TWO teams. Saturdays are busy with Jr. Jazz games. There are several practices during the week ... Friday nights have been taken over by basketball practices ... Mom and Dad had to move their date night to Thursdays.

Cooper's Game
Cooper had played a lot of basketball out front during the summer, so I had planned on signing him up for Jr. Jazz when the time came. As the deadline drew near, I asked Cooper if he wanted to play basketball. He said no (he just wanted to play soccer). So ... I didn't sign him up. That week, a transformation took place and the kid became OBSESSED with basketball... playing it, watching it ... he knows all the NBA player's names. The registration date at the rec center had passed, but I checked with them and they had a team with an open spot, so we were able to get him signed up after all. He got his cast off the week of his first game, but he's still wearing a protective brace while playing sports for a few weeks. Cooper's had three games so far, and he's really been a star player each game.

Keaton's Game
Keaton has played Jr. Jazz for a couple of years now. Last year was a bit rough, we had actually considered NOT putting Keaton on a team this year, but he said he really wanted to play, so ... he's playing. He's had three games so far and has done great every game. It will be interesting to see how he handles a game when (if) they do NOT win and he doesn't get multiple baskets in.

Callahan's Jr. Jazz Game

Callahan's Superleague Game

Callahan is continuing with his same team for Jr. Jazz (although they lost a couple players, so they'll just have eight on the team ... more playing time?). They will be playing in the more competitive "team" division. Unfortunately, the location the 6th graders were slated to play in had some scheduling conflicts, so they did NOT have games the first couple weeks (much to Callahan's dismay!). Luckily, Superleague has started on time (basically the same team as last year, lost a couple kids, gained a couple others). Callahan did AWESOME in both his first games ... gave Mom plenty of video highlights *Ü* Between the two teams he usually has four practices and two games a week ... Callahan loves every minute!

Landon is reffing again. This year he's over the 4th grade team division. When it was time to pick him up from his shift, I went a little early to see him in action. Whereas many of these kid refs are very hesitant and quiet when it comes to making calls, that wasn't Landon. He was confident and self assured (he had great training last year). I was very impressed with him (I could be a bit biased, but I really think he did a wonderful job).

Basketball is just beginning ... looking forward to a great season!

Making Movies

In 2004, I found some software that helped me take our home videos and photographs and make them into short little movies set to music. We had a link from the computer to the television, so the kids could watch the movies over and over, and they did. Ultimately, there were equipment issues, (the computer crashed) and while the movies weren't lost, they did disappear for a bit, as did my movie making software.

Fast forward five years ... I repurchased my Muvee software (several different new versions available, from basic (less expensive) to advanced (more expensive) ... I bought the mid-priced one) and I started taking more video and making movies again. I've posted several here and I'm sure now that I'm really back in business I'll be posting even more. Callahan LOVES my Muvees of his basketball games ... it is a great way to capture them (I edit out all the misses and just show all the great shots).

I started uploading them to YouTube, as a bit of a backup, and so that they could be easily accessed and shared. As I pulled out the old muvees from years back, the boys gathered around the computer and watched them all, laughing and pointing and it was wonderful to see.

Muvee had a little contest on their site, calling for sports videos. I submitted the one I made of Colton's Summer Soccer and won first prize, which was a $20 Itunes GC and the latest Muvee software. I do get stuck in my ways though, I can see me still using the old software out of habit. As I looked over the muvees from four years ago, I can see the changes in the software that give me more options (captions, focusing on parts of the photos) ... it's just hard for me to try NEW things, even if they are better *Ü* Grayson did get me a new computer last year ... and I've already filled it up. I need more space for all my music, pictures and video!

Being in a Muvee Making Mood, I went ahead and took the video and pictures from Cooper's Fall soccer season. I had put off making the movie, thinking I'd get a little more footage, then I'd forget to charge my camera, then Cooper broke his arm and missed the last game ... so here is the belated Kicking it with Cooper Muvee production (below) ... and a list of ALL the Muvees to date (and there's a link to the page in the column to the right as well). I'll try to keep it updated as I keep making muvees! *Ü*

Playing Spanish

Landon is taking Spanish in school, and each week he is supposed to do an hour of "work" outside of class. I downloaded some episodes of Sesame Street in Spanish for him to watch, found a free application for his Iphone, and bought the "Spanish for Dummies" audio book for him to listen to. I also picked up a "Go Fish" game, that had the words listed in both English and Spanish. I figured with it, we could get a double deal, working on his Spanish, and entertaining his little brother! We did play "Go Fish" (or "Pesca" in Spanish) for the first time the other night. Then last night, Colton wanted to play again, and said to Landon "Please will you play SPANISH with me?"

Done Derbies

Gray is done with derbies for 2010 ... I used to try to make it to several each year, but it's getting less frequent for me to go as there are always things to do at home. Gray always takes at least one son to help out though. Sometimes it's a struggle to get one to go, other times they are fighting over the opportunity (and the cash payment that comes at the end of the night). Hopefully in the future this could be a good little side-job for the boys. Here's a list of the dates Gray did derbies this past year ...

Daily Doings (Dec2010)

1231 (Friday) New Year's Eve. We were hosting a party in the evening, so there was some cleaning up to do. Landon wanted a black long sleeved shirt for the dance, and so he went with Mom to Walmart and found what he was looking for (the store was crazy busy!). Grandma and Grandpa, Uncle Chris and his boys, and D&D and baby Ani came over for Hawaiian Haystacks and games. Shane's family was going to come too, but they had some sickness hit. Keaton wasn't feeling well either. He fell asleep pretty early then came wandering out talking about all sorts of weird things (the world moving in slow motion and someone laying on him ... and being very afraid). Colton also accidentally ate a peanut M&M ... we gave him some medicine and again, he didn't really show any signs of allergic reaction. D&D brought a Wii game over called "Just Dance" and it was funny to see people try and dance. We played Apples to Apples, Pictureka, Rat-a-Tat-Cat and Grandma taught us how to play Farkle, which Callahan really enjoyed. Landon had fun at his dance and looked sharp in his new shirt. Dad had to go pick him up at 12:40 ...

1230 (Thursday) More snow today. Callahan had a birthday party at 1:00, the roads weren't too bad when Mom dropped him off, but the storm was in full force at 4:00 when it was time to pick him up. Mom and Dad went out to Desert Star in the evening for the show there.

1229 (Wednesday) We were possibly going out to Mom's to see the cousins, but decided against it. Callahan had a scrimmage in the afternoon. He got a ride there, then Mom and Cooper went out to pick the boys up, stopping at Savers on the way. They actually had to switch churches, as where the boys usually play was occupied. Callahan had a rough game and got hurt several times. His cheek was also hurting where a wire was poking him after yesterday's ortho appointment. On the way home from practice, Mom dropped Callahan at the ortho so they could trim the wire. A storm had been forecast, and it hit, luckily the ortho office isn't far from home. Colton ate what he thought was an M&M ... but was actually a Reeses Piece (peanut butter for the allergic boy). We gave him some antihistamine and while he said he felt sick, we didn't really see any signs of an allergic reaction, whew.  Mom called from St. Marks Hospital,  Grandma had fallen and broke her hip. She'll need surgery and it's just a hard situation for all. The boys were supposed to have scouts,  but with the storm and everything, everything ended up canceled.

1228 (Tuesday) Cooper wasn't feeling well in the morning, and did end up throwing up. He threw up a second time and was pretty much down for the day. Callahan had an ortho/dentist appointment. Mom dropped him off then ran to Sam's for some milk. Back to pick him up and then they went to Kohls and got Callahan a bag for his basketball stuff. Landon wanted to go to Gene Fullmer ... he got a membership as part of his ref job, so it's free for him. Callahan and Keaton went too. They did some basketball and swimming. Mom made chicken pillows for dinner, they were very hot and Callahan burned his tongue, of course it wasn't bad enough that it stopped him from baking up some Otis cookies.

1227 (Monday) Landon was up early doing a workout (and by early, I mean like 5:00 a.m.). Dad got off to work, and everyone else was up early ... aren't the kids supposed to sleep in? Mom ran to Maceys for some groceries. Callahan had a basketball practice later in the day, but was invited over early to Stockton's, which was great as he gets SO bored at home. Mom ran to the library after dropping him off. Tried to get some of Christmas cleaned up and put away. Dad was able to pick up Callahan from practice on the way home from work. Landon took off with friends to head downtown for the Jazz game. Cooper fell asleep early and didn't watch, but Callahan kept tabs on the game. The Jazz lost. Landon didn't get home until after 11:00.

1226 (Sunday) We were attending the baby blessing at Derek's ward today (same time as ours, so we missed our church). Mom was thinking of postponing Sunday Circles until after the meeting, but the boys complained too much, so she went ahead and made breakfast. We went to the meeting. They were doing their Christmas program. We went over to the house after. Even though their house is small, it seemed to hold everyone ok. It started to snow on the way home. It was a pretty quiet Sunday ...

1225 (Saturday) The boys slept in! Until after 8:00! We did get up and unwrap gifts. Landon had asked for three things. A Jazz jersey, a basketball and some basketball shoes. He got those things and some underwear and other little things. Everyone got Legos, as usual. Callahan and Keaton had both gotten new basketball shoes and basketball earlier. They got Electronic Monopoly, Callahan got a football, Keaton got an Elmo shirt and Seasame Street hat. Cooper and Colton got hats too (Sonic and Star Wars). Mommy did NOT go overboard on gifts this year. She didn't really get much for Daddy at all. Daddy got Mommy new speakers for the computer and an Ipod Touch (which will be used by Colton as much as by Mommy). We packed up and went to Maga's house. The boys got Jazz tickets and Fanzz gift cards (Colton got a ToyStory Lego set). Dad bought Maga AppleTV and got it all set up. It's really cool and Daddy would like it for us, but our TV isn't compatible. The boys played a game of Electronic Monopoly (and then forgot it at Maga's house).

1224 (Friday) Christmas Eve. Daddy still went into work for a while and did a little shopping on the way home.Mom was busy making the soup and breadsticks (and some cinnamon rolls) and also putting together the slideshow. We headed out to Grandma and Grandpa's house around 3:40. We had soup and then watched the slideshow. We exchanged gifts and then played the candy bar game. We didn't get around to doing the nativity. Home and to bed so Santa could come. They boys slept downstairs in the big room.

1223 (Thursday) No school for the kids. Gray had been wanting to take one of the boys into work to do some scanning and filing. Originally, I had planned on Callahan going, as he'd done it before, and Landon has his ref job to help him earn extra cash. But, Callahan had a basketball practice, so Landon ended up going instead. Callahan had his practice, and then was promptly bored. Mom cooked some chicken (for soup tomorrow) and made some more cookie press cookies. Dad and the boys went out and delivered a few more neighbor gifts, and took the boys out shopping, then Dad went out for some shopping at Kohls (we had some coupons).

1222 (Wednesday) Last day of school for the boys. I didn't have anything planned for Colton. To help keep him busy we made some candied popcorn (red and green). Colton thought popping the corn was fun. Mom hurried and wrapped presents for the boys before they got out of school. Picked up the kids from school and now they have a nice holiday break. We had several kids over for a bit after school, then Keaton and Callahan left for a birthday party (at Classic Skating). It was Anniston's sealing at the temple, but Mom and Dad couldn't make it with everything going on. Mom and Dad went downtown for dinner with Daddy's business partners and their wives. Landon tended the two little boys.

1221 (Tuesday) Colton had his Christmas party at preschool. He took his camera and took some pictures. After Mom dropped him off, she headed over to the school for the Christmas program there. Callahan was first (6th grade started then went down each grade ending with kindergarten).  Mom made homemade bread and two batches of cookie press cookies. She wrapped up several plates and got some wrapping paper and Skookie gifts, and Daddy and the boys delivered them. Dad put up another basketball hoop in the downstairs hallway (as the boys were always fighting over the one ... now there is two, hope it helps).  Callahan picked out some presents to give to his friends and paid for them with his own money. Mom had made some cookies and Daddy and the boys went out delivering them. Callahan fell down the stairs, he was hurt but it didn't cause any lasting damage.

1220 (Monday) Happy Birthday Colton! A couple days ago while shopping, Mom and Colton picked up a little laser gun. Mom said Colton had to wait for his birthday. First thing this morning, Colton asked for his gun. He loved playing with it.  Addie and Will came over for a playdate during the day. They brought him a present, Moon Sand. Colton got a few other gifts during the day, a toy bow and arrow (he'd asked for this after playing with one at Randon's house), the ToyStory3 game for DS, some Gobstopper candy and a ring pop. In the evening, Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Chris and D&D&A came over for some cake and ice cream. Colton played a game of "Go Fish" with Uncle Chris.  Yesterday Daddy said Colton couldn't turn 5, have his birthday or presents if he still kept his blanket and binky, so Colton gave them up and has been fine. What a big boy.

1219 (Sunday) Sunday Circles for breakfast then off to church. They primary sang a song (and sang the wrong words). Home Teachers came after church and dropped off some oreo cookie truffle balls. Then we headed up to Magas for soup and rolls. We played the candy bar game ... Cooper was SO sad when his big KitKat got taken. Adrian wasn't happy with Mom when she took his Mr. Goodbar ... and even less happy when it held the winning $50 prize. We did a left/right gift exchange for other little prizes. As it is Colton's birthday tomorrow, we sang happy birthday, but most everyone was too full to eat any.

Landon: 20 ($3), Callahan: 29 ($4), Keaton: 31 ($5)

1218 (Saturday) Started the day with Saturday Circles (Dunford Donuts) ... they were out of pink cookies. Gray headed out for a funeral of a lady in his ward growing up (Susan Lichfield). I took Keaton to his game. Callahan, Cooper and Colton came to watch. It was a competitive game, our team won, but only by two. There were pictures afterward. I sent Keaton with a teammate, quickly dropped the boys home, grabbed Landon and dropped him at his ref job, and then went to pick up Keaton from pictures. Cooper's game was next. He had quite the cheering crowd ... Dad, Grandpa, Maga&Rex, Olivia, Ana&Aiden ... he delivered too, making several fast breaks. They demolished the other team. Pictures after (Gray had driven separately so he could go home after handing off some stuff for Chris). Home again and then back out, taking Callahan and Keaton to watch the end of the 4th grade team game and pick up Landon. Dropped Callahan off at pictures and told him to hitch a ride to the game. I took Landon home, then Keaton and I left to Callahan's game, stopping at the library on the way. Callahan played the entire game. It was a good game, the other team did provide a challenge but we won pretty easily.

1217 (Friday) Cooper woke up early complaining of a headache. Mom gave him some medicine and they both went back to bed. A little later when it was time to wake up, Cooper threw up, so he stayed home from school, although he seemed fine and didn't throw up again. Colton was happy to have a brother around. Callahan's basketball practice got cancelled. Keaton had a birthday party (starting at 6:00) and still went to his practice at 8:00. Callahan went too, thinking there would be an empty court (as his coach also has the time after) ... there were actually THREE empty courts, as Keaton's coach seemed to be the only one who did NOT cancel. The boys had a really good practice and Callahan got lots of shooting in too.  Daddy went to a late night movie with Joe.

1216 (Thursday) Colton had preschool then Randon and Bryce came over for a playdate. "Despicable Me" came in the mail today, the kids have enjoyed watching it. Mom and Dad went on their date in the evening. Landon tended.

1215 (Wednesday) No playdate today, instead Mom and Colton went shopping (Big5, Walgreens, BigLots and got some crazy bread). Might be a little more ready for Christmas now.  Keaton had scouts at 5:30. At 6:30 Bailey came over to tend the little boys while Dad and Landon went to their scouts and Mom and Callahan went to his basketball game at Bennion Jr. While Callahan's team won easily, it wasn't a great game, tons of fouls, Callahan didn't get one basket, and there just weren't the usual "wow" moments. They can't all be great I guess.

1214 (Tuesday) Colton had preschool and a playdate at Randon's house. Mom made a run to Maceys for milk, bread, eggs and ice cream ... they didn't have any vanilla ice cream. She made more gingersnap dough and dropped off cookies at Randon's when she picked up Colton, and Sexton's, when they dropped off Bryce (who had stayed for the playdate as well). More cookies went to Stockton and Cody after Callahan got dropped back off from his basketball practice.

1213 (Monday) Colton had a playdate at Addie's house today. Mom ran errands (Blockbuster, Bank and Library) after dropping him off. Callahan had basketball practice in the evening and was able to catch a ride. Dad worked on calendars, Cooper watched a variety of NBA games.

1212 (Sunday) Yummy Sunday Circles as usual, then church. Mom made muvees of Cooper and Keaton's games and figured out how to load Callahan's onto his Ipod for easy viewing. Homemade Oreos for the Sunday treat.

1211 (Saturday) Keaton's game was first up at 9:00. Callahan and Cooper came to watch. The setup was a little different today, they put the teams and the scoreboard on the opposite side. Keaton had a good game again. Near the end, the coach pulled out Keaton and another kid who's good (and tall) to give the other team a chance to get some baskets in. Mom and Dad went out to breakfast and Costco, picking up some Otis cookies, yum. It's been a while. Cooper's game wasn't until later (at 4:00). He had a good game again too. Keaton and Callahan came and watched (Dad too).  We had some Dominos for dinner.

1210 (Friday) French Toast Friday ... then the kids watched some old "muvees" before heading off to school.  Callahan and Keaton had basketball practice in the evening, Callahan's is first, but then he stayed and continued to play during Keaton's practice. Cooper watched the Jazz game at home (they won).

1209 (Thursday) Colton had preschool and then a playdate with Randon at our house. Mom made a muvee of Callahan's game. In the evening Mom and Dad did their date, going to Santa Monica Pizza. It was fine, but nothing to rave about. Stopped at Cold Stone after.

1208 (Wednesday) Jacob from carpool was feeling sick, so he was staying home and Mom drove the kids to school. After we got home and Colton did his Rusty and Rosie assignment, we invited Jeffery over to play. We finished off the gingersnap cookie dough. Keaton had scouts and they made a cool copper etching and a marshmallow gun. Callahan had scouts, but had to leave a little early as he had a Superleague game tonight (9:00 start time at Franklin Covey, so Mom made Dad drive). The older youth were going caroling, which Landon was actually saying he was looking forward to, but he has been under the weather and Mom wasn't sure she wanted him out in the cold with his cough, so he stayed home. Mom, Dad and Callahan went to the game, and Callahan did GREAT! He got the first basket of the game (a three!) and was on fire the whole time. It was a good, competitive game, we won by four points.

1207 (Tuesday) Mom dropped Colton at preschool then ran to Savers. She had a 30% off coupon, and got Landon some more jeans, some Sketcher shoes for Cooper to grow into, a Karl Malone jersey (fit cooper) and some underarmor for the older boys. Spent too much, but hopefully will save on some future purchases (Coop shouldn't need new shoes in a while). Colton went over to Randon's for a playdate. Mom picked him up on the way to get Landon. She had to head over to the school early for Columbia Carpool as Callahan had Reggie's practice. Cody's mom drove today (and was waiting when we got home). Mom made the leftover dough into gingersnaps to give Cody and Stockton, but they drove off too quick after dropping Callahan off ... so we gave the cookies to neighbors instead. Dad cleaned off the desk ... so that's what the wood looks like! Landon and Callahan have been downright SHAGGY, so Mom took them for haircuts. They look very handsome. Landon hasn't been feeling well today though, runny nose and achy. Landon's friends came over around 9:00 ... most everyone was already to bed and Mom and Landon were not dressed enough to open the door, quick changes! They are planning a trip downtown to a Jazz game in a couple weeks and needed Landon's money to buy the ticket.

1206 (Monday) Back to school for the boys, except Colton. He and Mom went shopping in the morning at Sam's Club, then Addie came over in the afternoon. Landon said he needed to take cookies to seminary tomorrow. Mom was out of shortening, so she had to make another store run. Then she made the dough and Landon did the rolling and baking. Callahan didn't have Reggie's practice today (will tomorrow) but did have Klint's. They did a quick scrimmage against Klint's 8th grade team and won. Mom gave cookies to the carpool and the coach as a thank you. Cooper watched the Jazz game ... they won.

1205 (Sunday) Church and Sunday Circles as usual. Dad had thought about taking the family to temple square, but fog rolled in, and driving conditions weren't good ...although I bet the lights would have looked even prettier in the fog ... Mom made gingersnaps for the Sunday treat.

Landon: 26 $4  Callahan: 29 $5  Keaton: 23 $3

1204 (Saturday) Early start with an 8:00 at Sunset Ridge for Keaton. He did great and their team won. Dad had all the boys cleaning when we got home. Landon mopped the kitchen floor and Callahan and Keaton had to scrub walls and cabinets. The little boys emptied garbages. The washer flooded the laundry room again. Dad pulled it out, checked the classifieds and picked up a "new" (used) one and put it in. As much as Mom doesn't like to do laundry, NOT being able to do laundry is even worse! Landon had his ref shift from 1:00-5:00. Cooper had his game at 2:00. Cooper also had a great game and they won too. In the evening, Dad took Landon and Keaton out for burgers.

1203 (Friday) It was French Toast Friday, but Landon and Callahan had already eaten. Colton was happy to have Landon around for a bit in the morning to play with him. He was bored while brothers were away. He and Mom ran to Reams to get bread and milk. It was early out for the elementary. Keaton went on a scout field trip, and as soon as Mom got back with Landon from the middle school carpool, she and Callahan picked up Stockton and went to basketball practice. The light was out at 5400 and Redwood Road, but a cop came and directed traffic, so it wasn't too bad. Instead of walking the gym as she usually does, Mom went to the thrift store and picked up a couple jeans for Landon and a Jazz jersey for Cooper (a great find). The traffic light was still out on the way home (but the cop was still there too). Callahan and Cooper were going to Ridley's birthday party at a swimming pool. Colton was SO sad, that the Shaw's said he could come too. Keaton had basketball practice from 8:00-9:00, Mom saw Callahan's team there (there practice was from 7:00-8:00). Landon went and hung out with friends. There was a late Jazz game on, started at 8:30 and ended after 11:00 ... Callahan and Cooper gave up and went to bed as the team was loosing.

1202 (Thursday) Colton had preschool and then a playdate at Bryce's house. Mom ran into Elkridge to request that Callahan could go there. We'll probably put one in at West Hills too and then we'll have to decide which place to go. Mom also did a little shopping for the boys, got some basketball shorts for Landon and some basketball shoes for Callahan, Keaton and Cooper. When the boys were home from school, Mom and Landon had to run to Gene Fullmer to correct some paperwork Landon had filled out incorrectly. We went ahead and got his membership (free with the job) while we were there. Mom and Dad went out on their weekly date tonight, as Friday is booked with basketball practice and other stuff.

1201 (Wednesday) Colton was bored with his brothers gone, so Mom invited Jeffery over for a playdate, they played until it was time to pick up Landon. Keaton had scouts, Mom dropped him off then ran to the library and Dominos. The traffic was HORRIBLE. Callahan's scouts had a trip to the police station, Landon's group played dodgeball and ate pizza. Cooper and Colton had baths and then Cooper watched the Jazz game.

Daily Doings (Nov2010)

In Reverse Order ...
Start at the bottom and read UP if you want it chronologically *Ü*

1130 (Tuesday) Last day of November. Colton had preschool and Mom ran to Walmart and the bank. Bryce and Randon came over for a playdate. Keaton had a friend (and sister) who came home with him after school. Daddy worked very late, but still went out and got the Christmas tree when he did finally get home.

1129 (Monday) Cooper had a doctor appointment at 9:00 to get his cast off. The doctor still wants him to wear a brace for a few weeks. He can take it off for school (writing), sleeping and baths. Colton went to Addie's for a playdate and they had fun in the snow. Callahan had basketball practice right after school, and then another practice after the first one. They got their jerseys. Jazz had another game, they won.

1128 (Sunday) Sunday Circles, church ... Landon gave the lesson in young mens. There was a Jazz game going on in the afternoon, so Cooper was anxious to get home to watch it (Jazz won). Mom made coconut goodies and snicker-doodles. It didn't stop snowing the entire day.

Landon: $2 (two songs)
Callahan: $4 allowance + book buck (Sent)
Keaton: $2
Cooper $1 (31)

1127 (Saturday) No games today. Dad took some of the boys to Kneaders for breakfast, then he went snowshoeing up the mountains. It was the big Utah vrs BYU football game today. C&K went over to Lavalee's to watch it, Landon and Cooper watched on the computer. BYU was ahead to start, but the U came back right at the end to win. In the evening Mom & Dad went to a show with Maga & Co.

1126 (Friday) Dad went into work for half a day. It was pretty mellow at the house, no crazy Black Friday shopping here ... Mom didn't even look at the ads. Some clean up from all the cooking, putting away the autumn decor (which was covered in snow) and getting out some Christmas stuff. Mom did some rearranging of the kids closets, getting the shorts away and moving the long sleeve shirts into easy access points. Callahan had basketball practice in the late afternoon. Mom and Dad had a quick date. The Jazz played the Lakers and won!

1125 (Thursday) Thanksgiving. Mom got rolls rising first thing. We headed out to Maga's a little after noon. Dinner wasn't until 2:00, but Dad wanted to deep fry the turkey there. C&C were a little late, so we didn't eat until closer to 2:30. Yummy Thanksgiving feast.

1124 (Wednesday) Yesterday's storm definitely did NOT live up to the hype. The kids had been hoping for school to be cancelled, but it was not, although it was early out for the elementary kids. No scouts today as it is family week. Jazz game in the evening ... Jazz won!

1123 (Tuesday) Colton had preschool but didn't have a playdate after as Randon was a little under the weather. It was ok though, as Bradley was around to keep Colton entertained. Mom made cookie press pumpkins, sugar cookies and jello in preparation for Thanksgiving.  Colton and Mom stopped at Blockbuster and exchanged a DVD and went next door for some crazy bread before picking up Landon. There was a big blizzard rolling in and everyone seemed to be freaking out about it, saying it was going to be such a big storm. It did finally hit around 5:30, there were some white out conditions, but it really wasn't bad.

1122 (Monday) Short school week for the boys. Mom and Colton ran to Winco, the first time shopping there. It's further away but they had some good free coupon specials. Addie came over for a playdate in the afternoon. Mom left early to save a spot at the elementary school to try to get Callahan home quick for his basketball practice (but his ride still beat us). Daddy and the two older boys went to bed early, but Cooper and Mom stayed up to watch the Jazz game, they won.

1121 (Sunday) Lots of snow had fallen. Dad couldn't get the snowblower to start so we had to shovel the driveway. The snow was wet and heavy. Even though it was a Sunday morning, the kids were all outside playing. We did come in for our weekly Sunday Circles. Dad went to a homecoming while the rest of us went to our regular meetings. After church Dad and Landon had a fireside. Mom made "turkey" sugar cookies.

Landon:18/$2  Callahan: 24//$4  Keaton: 23/$3
Cooper: 38   Colton: 31
Landon: Book Buck for PercyJackson#4
Callahan: Book Buck for "Found"

1120 (Saturday) Dad and Mom went out for a quick breakfast at Kneaders ... their french toast is basically a cinnamon roll. Dad will have to take the boys there and see what they think. Callahan had a white board practice and then went home with Mason until his game later in the day. Grandpa and Dad came to watch the game (Mom jogged the track as usual). Callahan had a really good game (at least two three pointers, several other baskets and assists) and they won by nine. 1st place again! Mom signed Cooper up for Junior Jazz, the deadline had actually been last week. Cooper hadn't been interested then, but had suddenly started playing a lot of basketball in the past week and did want to sign up. Mom is glad they accepted late registrations. Dad had been given a gift certificate to Texas Roadhouse, so we all went out to eat. It was yummy. It had been a weird windy day and it finally blew in quite a snow storm! Mom was glad Dad was driving. Landon took off to a friend's house for cookies and the Jazz game. Mom and the other boys watched the game on the computer. The Jazz won!

1119 (Friday) Happy Birthday Daddy! He left for work early as usual, but came home early as we'd ben asked to bring in the chocolate fountain for Keaton's class. It was the first fountain flop ... the chocolate just would not flow. But the kids still dipped away. Mom ran Callahan to Reggie's basketball practice from 4:00-5:15 and just stayed and walked the church gym while the boys played. Mom and Dad were planning on a movie, but went out to Apollo Burger instead.

1118 (Thursday) Colton had preschool and then a playdate. The Columbia kids had Parent/Teacher Conferences after school. They are all doing well, although Keaton needs to do better on homework and reading. Callahan had basketball practice in the evening, Mom jogged the track.

1117 (Wednesday) Callahan had an early orthodontist appointment, so he was a little late to school (but only about 15 minutes). Mom needed to run an errand at The District, so Colton went to play at Bryce's house for a bit. Mom got a call from Keaton at school saying he had fallen and hurt his head. Colton wasn't ready to leave his friend's house and they said he could stay. When Mom got to the school, Keaton did have a bruised bump by his eye, but Mom felt he would be fine. She did check him out and let him come home to rest. In the evening, Dad, Landon and Callahan had scouts. Cooper watched the Jazz game, they won.

1116 (Tuesday) Cooper wasn't feeling well, but he did get off to school. Colton had preschool and then we had Randon over for a playdate. Keaton brought his friend Oakley home from school to play at our house too. In the evening, it was Pack Meeting for Keaton and Daddy. Mom ran to the library and picked up a pizza from Dominos.

1115 (Monday) Landon hadn't been feeling well yesterday and didn't go to school today. Mom had to cancel the playdate with Addie, but Colton played with Landon and with Bradley. Callahan has basketball practice right after school. Mom had the kids run across the bridge to try and get home faster, but Callahan's ride was there waiting when we got home from school. Mom had all his stuff ready (including some food) and he was off. Mom picked him up at 6:00 and dropped him and Cody off at another basketball practice until 8:00. Callahan was pretty pooped when he got home. He, Landon and Daddy were to bed early, but Cooper wanted to watch the Jazz game ... they lost :(

1114 (Sunday) Primary program today. Maga and Co came out to see the boys, they all did great. After church Dad and Landon did some home teaching and Mom made roll dough ... dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls. Dad barbecued a roast and made mashed potatoes. Everyone ate too much. The older boys introduced the younger ones to Napoleon Dynamite.

Landon $5, Callahan $4, Keaton $3

1113 (Saturday) Callahan had a basketball game at 1:00 against Cole's team. We went a little early to see the end of the game before, a nailbiter between Reggie's team and Michelle's team. Michelle's team won by one. Landon came too, to watch the ref calls and fill out some paperwork for his ref job. This year there was more paperwork, Mom had to sign some stuff too and it took a little bit after the game (Callahan's team won of course). Landon, Callahan and Keaton pooled their money to buy Call of Duty: Black Ops and Landon and Mom picked it up at Sam's Club in the morning. Landon was so excited to play it when he got home from the basketball game, but there was an altercation and Dad ended up taking it away for a while :(  the boys finally did get it back later and spent the evening playing.

1112 (Friday) French Toast Friday. Landon was playing Mario Kart with Colton before he left for school, Colton was very sad when he left. There weren't a lot of friends around, so Colton was bored. He and Mom ran to the store and pretty soon it was time to pick up brothers (early out). Keaton went over to a friend's house to play (Oakley's) and Mom picked him up later. Mom grabbed Dominos for dinner. Shane and Alicia came over to drop of Adria and Rella then left with Mom and Dad to go see "Welcome Back Potter" at Desert Star with Grandma and Grandpa. Landon had a party, so he left right before everyone got back, and he was out late!

1111 (Thursday) Veteran's Day. Flags were up and flying. Colton had preschool and then went to play with Randon. Mom and Dad went out to dinner with both sets of Grandparents, leaving Landon to tend for the evening. Keaton hurt his toe. Callahan had basketball practice. Mom and Dad didn't get home until late, staying at Grandma's and setting up Netflix for her.

1110 (Wednesday) Happy birthday to Mom. Cooper gave Mom $1 ... Colton was a bit bored as no friends were around today. He and Mom went to the store, then went and got a friend (Jeffery) for a bit. In the evening, the oldest boys all had scouts, and there was a Jazz game on. Again ... the Jazz came from behind to win!

1109 (Tuesday) Callahan was off early (6:30) for a Student Council field trip to BYU. Luckily I was able to arrange a ride for him to and from (as it got out the same time as the Columbia Carpool). Colton had preschool and then we had Randon over for a playdate. Had to take a different route home from the Middle School pickup, as a big RV was stalled in the left-hand turn lane onto Bangerter. Landon had the ref clinic again. Callahan had a hard night as the Jazz were losing and it looked like he wouldn't be able to make his Superleague practice tomorrow (changed to 4:00-5:15) ... but then everything turned around, the practice was postponed until Friday AND the Jazz made a great comeback to win in overtime!

1108 (Monday) Back on track ... we hadn't thought about the playdate with Addie, so we'll resume that next week. It was ok though, as Colton's little friend Bradley was around and available to play. It was pretty chilly and rainy. In the evening, Callahan had basketball practice and Landon had a referee clinic over at Gene Fullmer.

1107 (Sunday) Daylight Saving, so we got an extra hour ... and still slept in. Because it was Fast Sunday, I told the boys I wasn't making the Sunday Circles until after church. The kids practiced for the primary program which is next week.

Landon: 1,8,8,6,8,5,1 Total:37 Average: 5.3 Allowance $5
Callahan: 4,5,5,3,6,4,3 Total: 30, Average 4.2 Allowance $4
Keaton: 2,5,2,3,4,3,2 Total: 21 Average 3 Allowance $3
Cooper:41   Colton: 32

1106 (Saturday) Gray left early for a 10 mile hike/trail run with a friend. Callahan had his basketball game at 11:00. It was at the Taylorsville Rec center. Mom couldn't jog, so she actually wore something other than workout wear and brought the camera to catch video. The kids creamed the other team. We got our signups in for Jr. Jazz. Callahan went home with Cody and ended up at Stockton's later. It was the big U game ... the U was crushed. It was also a Jazz game. We don't get the stations either game was on, but have found a website that shows the games so we were able to watch. The Jazz won in double overtime!

1105 (Friday) Oh ... we have been sleeping in! Today it was ok, as it was late start Friday for Landon. Mom is SO lucky to have a boy like Landon who gets up and off on his own ... it lets her sleep in when the other boys are off track. But today was the last day off track, school starts again on Monday ... everyone will have to get up early again. Of course the timing couldn't be better with Daylight Savings ... we'll get an extra hour as we "fall back" this weekend, and that should help everyone who's been sleeping in get back on schedule. We did the usual French Toast Friday breakfast. It was a pretty quiet morning, no friends around. Callahan wanted to go to the school when it got out, as his friends on C track will be going off track, so he won't see them Monday when he returns to school. Mom went ahead and dropped him off and told him to walk home. Mom ran to Walmart and picked up some more bananas and a pineapple (the boys have been going through the fruit!) and picked up a couple clearance Halloween costumes. In the evening, Mom and Dad went to a movie (The Social Network). Definitely TOO much popcorn and candy!

1104 (Thursday) Last day of bowling for the boys. They wore white shirts for COSMIC bowling and Cooper won another bowling pin (yea).  Callahan had basketball practice in the evening, Mom walked the park during it. They stopped at the store on the way home as we were out of fruit ... picked up bananas, clementines and grapes .. and milk. Mom and Dad then played a little racquetball.

1103 (Wednesday) The boys went and played at Shaw's house, then Colton had a birthday party at Addie's. We all packed up and went out to drop him off, then Mom and Callahan, Keaton and Cooper went to Wendy's. In the evening, Callahan and Keaton had their scouts, but Dad and Landon had the night off because of their activity last night.

1102 (Tuesday) Landon was back to school, Colton had preschool, and the other boys had bowling. Mom just runs errands while the boys bowl, rather than driving home and back. Colton went to play at Sexton's after preschool, Mom picked him up then picked up the middle school kids. Toy Story 3 came out today. We bought it and put it on the Ipods ... it came in the mail from Blockbuster too, so we also have it on DVD. In the evening, Dad and Landon helped on an Eagle Scout project. Mom made lemon jello cake, YUM!

1101 (Monday) Landon had the day off as it's a prep day for the teachers after the end of quarter. Both he and Callahan slept in. But then they both did a lot of jobs (Landon did basketball drills, weights, jogged a mile and did wii fit, wrote in his journal, etc.!  Amazing!) For the other boys ... the day after Halloween activity? A trip to the dentist! Cooper, Colton and Keaton got their teeth cleaned. Cooper and Keaton will both have to come back to get cavities filled.  We did a quick stop at Target on the way home. Then Mom took Cooper to the doctor for a checkup on his arm. They cut off the red cast and put a new, blue, smaller cast on. Callahan had basketball practice with Klint's team in the evening. Next week he'll probably start with Reggie's team too!

Preschool Indian

Even though the kids have had a couple different preschool teachers, ALL the kids have made these cute Indian outfits as part of their Thanksgiving celebrations at preschool. When Landon needed an Indian outfit for the church Halloween activity, I suggested he just make something like this!

November Notes

I've gotten behind ... on my journal, on my blog ... here's just a few things that have happened in November. Gray and I both celebrated our birthdays. I turned the big 40, Gray and I were both 40 for nine days, they he turned 41. Are we old? We went to dinner with the parents downtown at "The Roof" and the next night went to see "Welcome Back Potter" at Desert Star with my folks and S&A (that could be my brother Scott and his wife Amy, or my brother Shane and his wife Alicia ... guess which one came with us to the theater ...)? Then we went to Hale Theater to see "The Drowsy Chaperone" with Maga, Rex, Ana and Adrian. The kids had their primary program and they did great. We had four boys in it this year. More on the homefront ...

Keaton fell at school, hitting his eye on the corner of a desk. He was SURE he had cracked his head open (his good friend at school actually had a skull fracture a couple of months ago, so that was definitely on Keaton's mind) ... lucky for Keaton it was just a bump and black eye. As I met with Keaton's teacher at Parent/Teacher conferences a day or so after, she said she had been approached by some of the other teachers at the school, wanting to make sure that the little boy in her class wasn't in an abusive home ... sometimes I'm GLAD things like this happen at school, not at home, so we're off the hook!

Keaton's class was having a chocolate party, so we were asked if we'd bring in our chocolate fountain again. This was our first fountain FLOP ... the chocolate would NOT melt properly to flow through the fountain. The kids were still ok just dipping where they could, but Gray wasn't very happy about it!

And we got hit with a HUGE snowstorm. The Saturday of the basketball championships it was a weird windy day ... it was the precursor to the storm that hit that night. Sunday morning we woke to a good foot of snow! The kids had a blast playing in it before church. Gray got the snowblower out ... but couldn't get it started. A few days later everyone was stressing about another storm ... the BLIZZARD of 2010 ... which didn't amount to much at all. The kids were hoping for a snow day, but no such luck. Hopefully we'll get our snowblower up and running again by the next storm!

Turkey Cookies!

Turkey Cookies

Gobble Gobble .... a few years ago I saw these CUTE cookies in an advertisement. They have since become an annual Thanksgiving treat. They are just basic sugar cookies ... I'll use a Betty Crocker mix if I just need a few, and make a batch of dough from scratch if I'm trying to make more than a dozen. The cookie cutter is actually a "pumpkin", basically just a circle, with a little "stem" at the top. I just turn the cookie upside-down and the stem is now the turkey's feet! As I snack on my candy corn throughout the Halloween and Thanksgiving season, I try to set aside the candy corn without the white tip ... these I use as the beak, cutting off the yellow or brown top and using those for the feet. Mini chocolate chips are the eyes, and the little decorator frosting finishes the red waddle. I just add a little brown food coloring to a basic butter cream frosting for the base. The basic design also works for cupcakes!

Fall Ball

Fall 2010 - 1st Place

They did it again! 1st place for the Fall season. So many of the kids and coaches play year round, so we really get to know the other teams. Callahan loves it when he gets to play against friends ... Andre and Cody on one team, Cole and Hunter on another, this season we were combined with the Taylorsville Rec center, and so we also played against Reggie's team, which had several friends on it too. Then there's THE team to beat, we've gone head to head with them both Spring and Summer ... we had tied when we played them this season, so both teams were coming into the championship game undefeated. Our boys (and Callahan especially) had a GREAT game and were able to get the win *Ü* ... Dad doesn't make it to all the games, but we're glad he caught this one (Grandpa made it too!).

Generally, I jog the track during the games, but this only works at the Gene Fullmer Rec Center. Two of the games were at the Taylorsville Rec center, so while there I took pictures and video and then condensed them to just the highlights *Ü* The Nov6 game video is a little long ... there was just SO much to showcase ...

Sept25, 2010

The Junior Jazz season starts in just a couple of weeks. We're losing a couple of our players who are going to play on other teams with friends, so we'll see if we can keep the winning streak alive without them. Keaton and Cooper are going to be playing too ... and Landon will be reffing again! Bring on the basketball!

Army Boy

November 11, Veteran's Day ... to help remember, Colton's preschool class made these cute little camouflage army hats (and the shirt he just happened to wear that day matched too!). Colton loved his little hat and wore it for the rest of the day ... except when he took it off and poured some cereal in it ...well it was a little paper dish before it was a hat! Landon got into the patriotic spirit as well, wearing red, white and blue to school. I loved to see all the flags flying throughout the neighborhood. Thank you to all the troops!

Bowling Buddies

So we hit our first off-track time of the new school year. With Cooper's broken arm, we had initially planned on him sitting out this session. But then, buddies Ryland and Ridley asked if they could catch a ride and go bowling with our boys (we've got the room in the car, so why not?). Well, if Cooper's best buddy Ridley was going to be bowling, then Cooper wanted to go bowling too, broken arm not withstanding! It actually went great! Cooper says maybe he'll still bowl with his left arm even when the cast comes off. He even won the coveted "trophy" (bowling pin) again (yea, now we have three bowling pins around the house).

It was very fun bowling with friends. Allstar Lanes also redid the arcade section, making it bigger, and using a "credit card" rather than tokens. You can even count your tickets and upload them to your card (rather than saving them like we did in the past). The kids LOVE playing in the arcade, and they are given a few credits as part of the session, so they always spend the last few minutes playing until they are picked up. Once, as I walked in to get them, I found Ryland surrounded by a PILE of tickets ... he had hit the jackpot. The older kids tend to save their tickets for a big purchase, while the little guys usually would spend that day's winnings on small items each day.

Thanks again Allstar Lanes (and Ana, the teacher!) for another fun off-track bowling session.

It's New, It's BLUE

Cast update ... after four weeks in Cooper's initial "long arm" cast we went back to the doctor for a checkup. They removed the cast and x-rayed the arm, then recast it. This time, Cooper chose blue, and they went ahead with a smaller cast, below the elbow. It's a little strange for me to see the BLUE cast, ALL the previous broken bones (Keaton's arm, Callahan's arm, Landon's arm) were all RED. Four more weeks in this cast and then Cooper should be good as new.

If you look at the picture above, you might also notice bandages by Cooper's eye ... he took another tumble, hitting his head on the table in the den. I took him into the Kid'sCare just to get it checked. It didn't need stitches luckily, they steri-stripped it and said it should heal fine.

Some of the bills are starting to come in ... $50 copay each doctor visit (three so far ... NOT including the trip to the Kid's Care), and the first cast cost us over $400 (we have a $1000 deductible). Unfortunately with Gray's job change we no longer have our flexible spending to help pay for these costs (but luckily we DO have insurance and overall we're pretty healthy, so I'm not really complaining).

Cooper is excited to have everyone sign his cast ... again ...

Missionary Week

The final week of the quarter, Landon's seminary class held "Missionary Week" ... and during that week, the kids were to try to live as a missionary would (no texting, no pop music, no television, video games or Internet ... white shirt and tie for the guys, etc.). The kids received points for each portion they were able to accomplish (extra points for preparing a lesson or giving away a Book of Mormon). Monday through Thursday, Landon wore his Sunday best to school. He TRIED to give up texting, music, television and video games ... but it was a little too hard (he caved after about one day). I liked missionary week *Ü* even though Landon wasn't perfect, I could tell he was trying a bit harder than usual. And the brothers took advantage of it too ... if Landon did do something inappropriate, they would yell "missionary, missionary" ... we'll see if that reminder sticks even as "missionary week" comes to a close.

Costumed Kids

Halloween 2010

Last year I went a little overboard on costumes ... I bought ALL new (Lugi for Landon, Mario for Cooper, a Basketball Box for Callahan, BumbleBee for Keaton, Buzz for Colton ... and Woody for Cooper, even though he already had the Mario costume). The kids do generally get several opportunities to wear their costumes other than just Halloween night. This year, I didn't buy ANY new, the kids just went through the boxes of costumes from previous years (although Landon's was purchased last year AFTER Halloween on clearance, so it was new, just not purchased this year) ...First up is the Halloween party at school (see the Halloween Party Post for pictures and a video) where the kids dressed simply in their Sesame Street hats for costumes. Colton had his preschool party the Thursday before Halloween ... here's a picture of him and his teacher (isn't that the CUTEST costume?)
Colton and Ms. Cindy

Landon also had celebrations at school ... he had a special backpack for the day ... even his shoes were a matching black and orange ... I called him Jack-O-Landon *Ü* During the day, the 9th graders got to have a Halloween dance. Landon took off his orange shirt and became a "Chick Magnet"

The Friday night before Halloween, there was the annual neighborhood party over at the church. The different church organizations (primary, young mens, young women, elders, etc.) each are in charge of a room which they decorate according to a theme. Gray and Landon were with the young men and a Cowboy and Indians themed room. Now I said *I* did not buy any new costumes this year ... but Landon didn't have Indian attire ... so hubby made a stop and $40 later, we do now have an Indian costume to add to the box (boxes) ... Grayson was able to make due with existing stuff for his cowboy costume.

After the Friday festivities, the kids went trick-or-treating in the cold and rain on Saturday night. Our house is in a little loop ... and the younger kids rarely ever make it out of our small little neighborhood, this year was no exception. The older kids did venture a little further, staying out after the little ones came home. But I think the little boys enjoy answering the door and handing out candy almost as much as collecting it! The favorites for the older boys are Reese's ... the little boys like Kit Kats and Twix. Landon said he's going on a health kick and NOT eating any candy... that's more willpower than I have!

Daily Doings (Oct2010)

In reverse order ...
so start at the bottom and read up if you want it chronological *Ü*

1031 (Sunday) Sunday Circles for breakfast, then church. After church Mom tried to get a family picture taken ... the boys are NOT very cooperative (even Daddy!) Mom made more cupcakes to take to Maga's. Maga wasn't feeling well though, so we didn't see her all night.

1030 (Saturday) Cool and rainy. Dad help James Beckstead build a derby car in the morning then went running some errands. Cooper fell off a chair and hit his head on a table, leaving a cut by his eye. Mom wasn't sure if it needed more than just a bandaid, so she ran him into the Instacare just to be safe. He didn't need stitches, so that was good. He has little steri-strips by his eye. When it was time to go trick-or-treating, the rain was really coming down. The boys went out to a few houses, just around the neighborhood and called it good. Callahan and friends went further. Landon hung out with his friends until late.

1029 (Friday) French Toast Friday ... yum. Jack-O-Landon went to school (wearing his orange shirt). There was a dance for the 9th graders during the day, he changed into his "chick magnet" costume and got a lot of attention. Mom ran to the store and then to Blockbuster. Returned "How to Train Your Dragon" and "SuperMarioBros" and picked up "HaloReach" and "The Spy Next Door". The Wii downstairs has been acting up, not playing some of the favorite games, so we switched the upstairs and downstairs Wiis (we pretty much just use the upstairs one to watch Netflix). Mom made cupcakes for the Halloween party at the church tonight, white chocolate spiderweb toppers and cupcakes on a stick. Dad dressed up like a cowboy and bought an Indian outfit for Landon for their themed room. We went to the church and got treats and played some games.

1028 (Thursday) Colton had his preschool Halloween party, he wore his ninja costume. He went home with Jeffrey again today. The boys had bowling, it was crowded today as a whole bunch of kids from high school were there. Ryland and Ridley came over after bowling and stayed until their parents got home, then all the boys went over to their house to play for a while. Mom had volleyball in the evening until really late.

1027 (Wednesday) Snow again this morning. For the first time, the kids put on PANTS ... and boots and gloves and coats. They made a snowman outside. We packed up and went to Grandma and Grandpa's house. The boys stayed and played hide-and-seek while Mom and Grandma (and Danielle and Ani) went out to lunch at Red Robin. Back at home, the kids pulled out costumes. Cooper got dressed up as Bumblebee from Transformers (Keaton's costume from last year) and Colton got a ninja outfit on. Jacob was Ironman and they were running around outside (it had warmed up, the snow and snowman melted). Tyler joined the carpool for the ride home which makes the car pretty packed! Dad had a derby and both Landon and Callahan went to help. It was Clay's ward, so Clay's family came over to watch and race during the fun races. Will squealed like a girl.

1026 (Tuesday) Colton had preschool and then went over to Jeffrey's house until Mom got back with the boys after bowling. Ryland won 1000 tickets in the arcade today ... as Mom came in to pick the boys up she found him standing in a PILE of tickets.

1025 (Monday) Woke to snow. Callahan went and hung out at his friend Cody's house. In the evening, we went to Mountain Mike's for dinner. We had to go to a new one, as the one we usually go to has closed down :(  This new one didn't have as much space, or a pool or air hockey table. Mom got the HUGE pizza and there was a lot left over. There was a guy making balloon creations. Colton got a snake, Keaton a fish from a pole, Cooper Spiderman, Callahan alien and Landon eyeball.

1024 (Sunday) Sunday circles ... before AND after church (Colton wanted MORE waffles). Dad got home from his bike trip safe ... and tired. We all went out to Clay and Courtney's house for a birthday celebration (Addie and Will). There were homemade donuts, cupcakes and cookies, and of course ice cream. It was a cold and rainy day, so we turned on the heat for the first time (it smells!) ... bad storm in the night, very noisy, kept Mom and Dad awake.

1023 (Saturday) Callahan's basketball game wasn't until 5:00, which was MUCH too late in the day for him to have to wait for! He did have white board practice at 2:00. Mom went to the library after dropping him off, then picked up some white sauce pizza from Dominos. The basketball game was a challenge, pretty close the whole game. One kid (Tanner) was missing, so Callahan got some extra playing time, he took one bad fall. Our team was a little ahead near the end, but the other team got in a couple of three-point shots to tie the game. It was a good game though!

1022 (Friday) With Landon's late start, Mom made Friday French toast for breakfast.  In the evening, Callahan and Keaton went next door to Bailey's birthday party. Lots of noisy kids ended up in OUR yard for a while. They stayed until 10:00!

1021 (Thursday) Daddy left for Moab for Grandma Henry's funeral. He'll then stay for some biking with friends (which had been planned a while back). Landon and Colton had school, and the other boys had bowling. Friends came to play after, but had to leave when it was time to pick up Landon from school. Callahan's basketball practice ended up being cancelled, leaving the evening free for toasted cheese sandwiches.  Landon: School, HW, Read  Callahan: Dishwasher, BBDrills, Read  Keaton: Bedroom, Read

1020 (Wednesday) Callahan had an ortho appointment in the morning. Mom left Keaton tending the little boys. The boys were a bit bored today as not many friends were around ... Mom wishes we had traditional school instead of these off-track breaks throughout the year. In the evening, Keaton went to a derby with Dady, Callahan had scouts and Landon had young mens ... the little boys had much needed baths!  Landon: School, HW, Yard Cleanup, YMs  Callahan: Ortho, Garbages, Scouts, Read, Journal  Keaton: BR. Tend, Derby

1019 (Tuesday) Colton had preschool and the bigger boys went to bowling, as they usually do for off-track. Cooper actually was going to pass this session, with his broken arm, but then Ryland and Ridley decided to sign up (we have room in the car to take them) and then of course Cooper wanted to if Ridley was there. Besides the five boys I drop off, there are only two other kids. The arcade section of the bowling alley was completely redone. It's now almost twice the size with lots of new games. Instead of tokens, the kids are issued "CreditCards" which you load to be used to start the games, and they also track the tickets the kids win. The boys thought it was all pretty cool, and Cooper did fine with his cast (and bumpers). Mom had to pick up Colton late from preschool, as both preschool and bowling get out at 12:00. Callahan had basketball practice at 5:00. Mom grabbed some Dominos for dinner before taking him. Keaton had pack meeting in the evening, Dad took him.  Landon: School, HW, Read  Callahan: Laundry, DW, Malt, Read to Boys, Read  Keaton: BR, Laundry, Scouts

1018 (Monday) The elementary kids are off-track ... but they were all up uber early ... they beat Dad (who slept in a little). Landon still had school, and Mom took Cooper in for a follow-up xray in the morning (everything is looking good). Callahan is already bored being off-track (not enough friends around), Colton loves having his brothers home though. We had Addie and Will over for a little bit today. Mom has to remember to still pick up Landon from school! Landon: School, HW, Malt  Callahan: Tend, Little Fridge, Garbages, Read  Keaton: Bedroom, Dishwasher

1017 (Sunday) The boys got back in the mid-afternoon. They brought lots of sand and stickers with them. Time to unpack and do some laundry!  Landon: Journal Callahan: Read, Journal

Landon: 4,2,2,1,1,1  Allowance $1
Callahan: 5,3,5,4,4,3  Allowance $4
Keaton: 3,3,3,3,1,1 Allowance $2
Cooper: 6,5,6,6,4,5,7  Total: 39

1016 (Saturday) Mom and Cooper went out to Grandma and Grandpa's house. The cousins (Chris's kids) were there for Cooper to play with. Mom and Grandpa played a little tennis, then Mom and Grandma went out to lunch. Later in the day Mom and Cooper went to the library. Cooper misses his brothers!

1015 (Friday) The morning was spent getting ready for Daddy and the boys to leave on their camping trip. They got off around 11:30. Cooper and Mom went to the store, then went to Subzero. Dominos for dinner. Landon: Callahan: Journal, Read, Dishwasher  Keaton: Dishwasher

1014 (Thursday) I felt like a Saturday with the boys out of school for Fall recess. Mom almost forgot to put the garbages out. Colton was invited to go to the zoo with a friend and he was gone all day. Callahan and Cooper went to Ryland and Ridley's house, and Mom went and got a pedicure and a haircut. In the evening, Keaton had scouts and Callahan had basketball practice. Dad brought home a new tent and set it up in the backyard. Packing for the camping trip tomorrow.  Landon: Flies Callahan: Journal, Basement, BG, Read Keaton: Dishwasher

1013 (Wednesday) The boys got off to school, then Mom and Colton stopped at the store for some dry ice and then went to the school. Keaton met Mom in the parking lot and helped carry the stuff and showed her where his class was. Lots of parents had said they would come help, but only about half showed up. But that was ok, because it was still enough parents to have one at each station. There were six stations ... Pictureka, Make a Mummy (with TP), Cup Crash, Spider Drop, Candy Corn Toss and Bag Decorating. After everyone had gone through each center, the kids passed out candy, had donuts and a drink (there was fruit punch with dry ice). After Keaton's party, Mom and Colton went to Callahan's class and did it all again. The kids said good-bye to their friends because they go off track and won't be back for several weeks. When we got home, Mom realized we had left Colton's busy bag (with the DS in it) at the school, so she and Keaton went back to get it. Cooper's teacher caught Mom in the hall and told her that Cooper had done really well on a test (100%) ... that he was the ONLY kid who did. Back at home there were LOTS of friends over (Callahan's friend Cody had come home with us). Then the three youngest went to friends houses and it calmed down a little. Callahan didn't have scouts and Landon went to a football game at WJ High School.  Landon: School   Callahan: School, Bedroom, Garbages, Read   Keaton: School, Bedroom, Shower

1012 (Tuesday) Colton didn't have preschool again, but the little boy next door also didn't, so Colton had a friend to play with. Mom and Colton also went to the store because we were out of bread. Mom worked on some Halloween party stuff, making calls and craft bags. In the evening, Callahan had basketball practice at the park and Landon made Skookie with friends and then rode the tandem bike (I don't know that we'd gotten it out ALL summer!)  Landon: School, Homework   Callahan: School, Homework, Laundry, Shower, Read    Keaton: School, Dishwasher, Tend

1011 (Monday) Mom sent Cooper to school today for a couple of hours, then checked him out for his doctor's appointment. It was the usual playdate with Addie, so we picked her up from preschool and dropped Colton there and then went to the Riverton Hospital. Cooper got a red "long-arm" cast, which means it's big and bulky, above the elbow to his bicep. After about four weeks in it, maybe they'll be able to cut it down to a smaller one (below the elbow). We picked up Colton and grabbed some lunch at Wendys. Landon was the first one to sign Cooper's cast, but he had several signatures by the end of the day. The boys had flag duty. Dad picked up Dominos for a quick dinner before they left, then took them for Kong Cones at Maceys after.  Landon: School, Flags  Callahan: Dishwasher, School, Read (Finished PJ#2), Keaton: Bedroom, School, Shower

1010 (Sunday) 10-10-10 today ... late start and being Fast Sunday, Mom didn't make breakfast before church, but waited until after. Landon: Church, Journal, Laundry  Callahan: Dishwasher, Church, Journal, Weights, Read   Keaton: Church, Garbages, Read

Landon: 3,3,3,5,3,3,1 Total 21  Allowance $3
Callahan: 3,5,5,6,6,3,5 Total 33 Allowance $5
Keaon: 2,4,4,3,3,3,2,Total: 21 Allowance $3

1009 (Saturday) It was a cool morning ... Cooper's last soccer game, of course with his broken arm he couldn't play. Maga hadn't thought of that and showed up to the game. She and Rex came over to the house to say hi. Mom and Dad went shopping at Sam's Club (Mom had to go, because Dad hasn't gotten a new card after losing his wallet). Callahan's basketball game was at 1:00, they won easily. Brendan (Callahan's friend) game home after, then Mom dropped him home and went to the library and the store. Dad made a wonderful dinner of steak, chicken, mashed potatoes and rolls. Landon: Bathroom  Callahan: Garbages X2, Dishwasher, Little Fridge, Read   Keaton: Laundry, Read

1008 (Friday) French Toast Friday ... yummy breakfast. Mom and Colton went to the party store looking for Halloween party things. In the evening, we had some neighbors come over and run through some of the games. Then Mom, Dad and Colton went downtown to an Upstart training, getting a computer hard drive with a preschool program for Colton. Callahan had basketball practice and Landon tended brothers.  Landon: School, Basement, Tend  Callahan: School, BB Drills, Read  Keaton: Dishwasher, School, Shower

1007 (Thursday) Colton didn't have preschool today as his teacher had a conflict (family member in the hospital) but still went to his playdate at Randon's house. Bryce went and played there too, and Mom gave him a ride home when she went to pick up Landon from school. Cooper went to school today and did fine with his broken arm. In the evening, Keaton had scouts and Callahan had basketball practice. Mom walked the park during the practice then went to volleyball. Landon: School, HW, Tend  Callahan: Garbages, School, HW, BB Drills, Tend, Read  Keaton: Dishwasher, School, Scouts, Shower

1006 (Wednesday) Mom let Cooper stay home from school today to see how he would do (eating, going to the bathroom, any pain). They ended up going out to lunch at Golden Corral, Cooper's favorite! The appointment to get the cast is on Monday. In the evening, Landon and Callahan had scouts ... played a little dodge ball. Daddy was late getting home and didn't make it. Rainy day ... but Mom did get the lawn mowed (the front anyway) during a short sunshine break.  Landon: School, HW, Garbages, YMs, Malt  Callahan: Weights, DW, School, HW, Scouts, Read  Keaton: School, HW, Yard Cleanup

1005 (Tuesday) Mom drove Colton to preschool today and right after she dropped him off she got a call from the elementary school that Cooper had fallen and hurt his arm. Mom went to check it out and ended up bringing him home. He didn't use the arm much, but didn't complain a lot either. After preschool got out, Randon, Bryce and Bradley came over to play with Colton. Cooper chose to stay home while Mom went to pick up Landon, then he stayed with Landon for the Columbia carpool. Callahan had basketball practice at 5:00, Mom dropped him off the took Cooper into the KidsCare for an xray ... his arm IS broken. Landon and Dad worked all night on a rocket for Landon's technology class.  Landon: School, HW, Tend  Callahan: Bedroom, School, HW, Malt, Read   Keaton: Bedroom, Dishwasher, School, Homework

1004 (Monday) Colton was a bit bored in the morning, just laying around. It was cool and rainy, but during a break when the sun was out, Mom and Colton put out the pumpkins and fall decor and tore out the dead flowers. Addie came over for a playdate after her preschool. There were lots of friends over after the older kids got out of school too. Dad bbqed the roast for dinner.  Landon: School, HW, Journal    Callahan: Dishwasher, School, HW, Little Fridge, Read     Keaton: Bedroom, School, HW

1003 (Sunday) General Conference. We did our usual Sunday Circle for breakfast then went up to Maga's for most of the day. 1002 (Saturday) Cooper had a 9:00 soccer game, Callahan had a 3:00 basketball game. Iron Man 2 came from Netflix today, so Landon watched that during the day. The two little boys played at Shaw's for much of the day. Callahan went home with a friend after his game. Mom went to the store and library. Dad and Landon went to priesthood. We did Dominos for dinner.  Landon: Kitchen Sink, Church   Callahan: Basement x2, Read  Keaton: big ZERO ....

1001 (Friday) Landon had the day off for teacher prep day, so Mom took advantage of him being home to tend Colton to go out and run some errands.
