Elementary Artwork

Part of the school day at elementary is dedicated to art. When the kids are small, we hang their masterpieces on the fridge. I do still have Cooper's 3-D snowflake (Winter Weather) from a previous year. This year I came in and volunteered once a week. Often my duties were hanging up the recent works of art that the kids had worked on. It was fun to see all the variety from all the kids. The school had an evening activity to show off all the kid's artwork. I snapped pictures of Cooper's projects. Sometimes it's hard to store the actual papers, but pictures are forever ...

It's always good to see the creative push, not only academics.

Check out some of Cooper's past artwork in older posts ...
Draw Something and Drawing Dragons

I don't remember if all the artwork was sent home (or if I saw it all when it was) but I volunteered in Cooper's classroom during the year. Many of my "jobs" were to create displays for the artwork. You can see a little more about that in my "Coming To Cooper's Class" post.

Drawing Dragons & Cute Kindergarten Creations

Cooper has always been my "coloring kid." I was cleaning up in his room, when I came upon a box a drawings and artwork I had set aside. Inside, was a little "book" he had created that I had always meant to scan into the computer for safekeeping. I think he made these a couple years ago when he was in kindergarten, but I'm not positive on that timeline. I remember he went through a dragon drawing phase ... he drew SO many, with slight variations, but always the same basic shape. So better late than never, I finally scanned them in and am sharing them here on the blog.

As I saved the drawn dragon files on the computer, I came across a couple other cute kindergarten creations (that I HAD gone ahead and scanned and saved ... I'm so glad because I have no idea where the original projects are now). Below, is a short story by kindergarten Callahan ...

Years later, he still like DREBY cars *Ü*

I remember Keaton creating this short story ... I had to ask him for a little help with the interpretation, but he knew exactly what it said. I posted the translation to the side ...

Callahan's Thank-You to Clay&Courtney

(Backdated Blogging)

Clayton was cleaning out his emails when he came upon this one I sent him back on September 1, 2005. I wrote "Callahan drew a picture of the carnival last Friday as a thank you to both of you. You can see Courtney holding the fish he won. I have the original for you too when we see you next."  Of course, now we know that digital is the way to go! Whereas the original is likely trashed somewhere, we still have this scanned treasure.

I have my journal from Jan2006 on ... I'm not positive what happened to the previous years. I know we had a computer crash at one point, and lost a lot of stuff. I wish I had my journal entries, or my gmail (we started gmail in 2009) for records to remember more of what was going on.

I think this was a back-to-school carnival at Columbia. Grayson was out of commission with his ruptured Achilles tendon, and I was pregnant with Colton. But that means Courtney was pregnant with Addie at the time too. I guess maybe it was just too much for me to attempt with little Cooper and Keaton. Landon still would have been at Columbia too ... not sure if he went to the carnival too? He's not in the picture ;)

I have a LOT of saved stuff I should scan and blog ... I love to see the kids old artwork and writing.
