We got breakfast at a few different places, but not much stood out. There was one restaurant, Renee’s, where the eggs Benedict was very good. Everywhere we went, Cal ordered pancakes. I thought that was funny.
The days consisted mostly of wrestling in the back seat of the rental car, watching Dots’ game, going to dinner, grtting ice cream, going to Safeway for munchies, and then playing Dalmuti for an hour. Cal and Dad complained about the beds at the hotel, but honestly I couldn’t relate. I slept like a baby. And Cal judged how I slept. So what if I’m not using a pillow or my legs are sticking past the bed by a foot? And I’ll drool if I want to.
For dinner we went to Bamboo Sushi and Din Thai Fung. I’m not normally a sushi guy, but this place has the best sushi roll I’ve ever had — The Green Machine. It has fried tempura green beans. I highly recommend it, even if you don’t like sushi. Din Thai fung was very good as well. It’s mostly steamed dumplings, with sides of vegetables, and chocolate dumplings for dessert. Cal wasn’t super impressed, but it remains one of my favorite restaurants.
And then there was Salt and Straw. Easily one of the best highlights. Best ice cream out there. I was saying it the whole time. We literally went there every day. One time we went during the day, I think right when they opened. We saw how they made the cones and the bowls. We were the only ones there. We all got our ice cream and were just chillin, except Dad who was asking for another sample. And then another one, and another one, and another one. Poor lady was just trying to make the cones for the night, but this dingus needs to try every flavor they had in store. It was pretty funny.
What wasn’t funny was when all the boys were gaslighting me into saying that I was the only one who didn’t like Salt and Straw. This became a thing and it started because I was the only one who wouldn’t get a double scoop. And I was right, a double scoop of ice cream is too much ice cream to come ratio. So I stuck with my single scoop, but everyone made fun of me. At least that was until the car ride home when I had finished my ice cream and cone, while Dots and Cals ice cream was dripping everywhere because they couldn’t eat it fast enough. It was nice to say I told you so.
Other things we did: we went to an arcade, we went to a weed store, Dots took us through the campus. Me and Cooper kept playing this game on his phone where you’d guess the episode of a TV show. Sometimes we would be waiting for Dots’ game so we would all try to get a quick power nap in. Cal would wake up and then beg me to wrestle. Needless to say, I beat him up.
Colton’s games were fun to watch and we really enjoyed the Delta Sky Club on the way home. Only wish Mama was able to come. Overall, pretty good trip.
