Cal got a little clumsy while camping - handling an axe and OUCH, took a slice off his thumb! He said there was a LOT of blood. Not really something that could be stitched, just cover, keep clean and hope it heals in a hurry.
Cal/Camson had job at Bear Lake not long after this injury, and Cal commented that you never realize just how often your thumb is used in everyday/work activities. It was hard to work with the sensitive and bandaged thumb ... and even a year after, he says it's still sensitive.
It's a little reminiscent of when Landon was little and cut off the very tip of his finger with sharp scrapbooking scissors. LOTS of blood there too, I remember I grabbed a cloth to try and stanch the bleeding, and then "let's both lay down on the ground and raise your arm up" ... as if I didn't lay down, I was likely to fall down. Luckily baby Callahan was safe in his crib while all this occurred. Landon had a "mummy" finger for several weeks!
