Colton Clackamas Correspondence 2025-2026

September 20, 2025

Adjusting to life back in Oregon has been pretty easy, it was really nice not having to set up the room again and just being able to come back to the apartment right as we left it. Haley stayed the night we came back but hasn't been able to get back up to Oregon City since then as she's been pretty busy with working and getting ready to move herself to her house in Corvallis. I've still gone down to Lebanon a couple times, one time we went and watched her brother's football game, he's the head football coach at a high school called Scio. I'm heading back down to her house later today because we made little "boo" baskets for each other filled with little gifts. But I'll have to head back home early tomorrow morning because we have a workout with Coach Scott at 11:00, he's bringing up another group with lots of class of 26 kids and some returned missionaries. Basketball's been going well, practices look a little different with Stamme running them. We have been going pretty hard everyday, and we have some new faces. Starting with the returners, there's Connor, Sam, Lincoln, Reggie, Jkari, Kobe, and Brooklynd. So no Nick, JB, or Miles. The new guys' names are, Jayden, Tremayne, Luke, Shea, Brody, Bailey, Jace, Warren, and Omar. Jayden and Tremayne are both from Vegas, they came and visited last spring. Luke is from Utah, came up with Coach Scott in the spring, although I never played against him in high school or anything. She and Brody are from local schools, Brody actually being from the same high school as Connor and redshirted last year at Portland CC. I'm thinking Jace, Bailey, Omar, and Warren are probably going to be redshirts this year. But I am liking how the team looks, Jayden and Tremayne are both really good and Tre especially since he is a good big man, about 6'6 and is actually pretty good in the post. Right now I would think the starting lineup would probably look like me, Jayden, Connor, Luke or Lincoln, then Tremayne at the center.

We went to Coach Weg's celebration of life last Saturday just at the college. There were lots of former players there so it was fun to see everyone. Gray even flew in from South Dakota. Vitaliy, Mason, Nick, JB, Miles all came as well. A bunch of us went and got tacos after, although I forgot to grab a picture.

Still a little over a week out from school starting, not looking forward to that. My only in-person class this term is going to be a lab on Thursday nights, similar to what I had last spring. That will be a fun class though since a bunch of us all got it together. I'm pretty sure it's me, Connor, Brody, Lincoln, Sam, and Brooklynd. It's been nice having extra time to get shots up outside of practice these few weeks. I did apply to a few places to work but haven't heard back quite yet.

I had been trying to eat healthier this year, even counting all my calories and macros using this app that Steven showed me. I have kind of given up on the app already as it is kind of a hassle to always be inputting everything, but I am still making sure I'm eating better than I was last year. Not using my food stamps to just fill up my snack shelf again haha. Been eating lots of ground beef, but trying to make tastier meals with it. I've been commonly doing taco bowls and burger bowls. Usually at the beginning of the week I've been cooking up a batch of either chicken alfredo or stroganoff. I use a whole box of protein pasta when making them so they have a bit more protein in it. Although I couldn't find any protein egg noodles, so I just used rotini instead.

That's about all I have for now. I'll try and take some more selfies to send back haha. I love you!

There's only three other out-of-state guys, that being Luke, Tremayne, and Jayden. They're in the same apartments that Dom, Reggie and JB were in last year (Aspire). They actually have a two bedroom to save on money, Jayden and Tremayne sharing a room. I'm not sure exactly what they pay, but it's probably still a bit more than what ours is. But on the topic of apartments, Kobe did leave to go back home on Thursday. We did have a short talk about it last Friday, he had been having troubles with his knees recently and I asked about what the doctors had suggested. They all pretty much had the same answer, just a few months rest and hope it doesn't really get worse. Coach Scott apparently also mentioned maybe taking a medical redshirt year as to not lose a year of eligibility, but Kobe told me he wasn't wanting to redshirt again. So he did briefly mention maybe going back home if it was bad enough when we were talking about it then, and he eventually told me on Monday that he was just going to stop playing. Pretty sad to hear. But he is at least excited to go back home, get to see his family and his girlfriend. He got his stuff together pretty quickly, packing up everything except for his bed and desk. He actually upgraded his bed from last year also, going from a twin to a full. I think he planned on selling them but maybe just didn't want to go through the effort and left them for Brody, which was nice. I think I said in the text that Brody moved in Friday night but it was actually Thursday night. I had class with Connor, Brooks, Lincoln, and Sam, then Brody and Jayden had a different class in the same building. We all met up after and went to Sam's house for a bit because they had a ton of ice cream they need to get through. Apparently a friend of Sam's dad drives an ice cream truck and had given him one of those little horizontal freezers that has a bunch of ice cream bars in it. I'll attach a picture of it. But anyways, after that, Brody already had all of the stuff he needed for his room in his car to bring over, including a 65 inch tv that we put in the living room. Brody was my ideal pick to take that room out of anyone on the team since he's a lot of fun and he's super close with Connor. Him and Reggie were actually looking to get an apartment together in Oregon City anyway.

The app I was using is called MyNetDiary. I think I already mentioned that Steven had told me about it. It's pretty simple and it has a free barcode scanner which is super convenient. It also has the ability to save your meals, so I could make a big batch of my protein chicken alfredo, measure out a bowl of it and save the macros. So whenever I ate another bowl leftover, I can just easily select that in the app and get the approximate calories and protein. I have kind of abandoned the app recently though.

Fantasy football with Haley's family has been good for me so far, number one in the league and undefeated. With the way they set up the league, we are pretty much assigned which players we got so my team doesn't really change from week to week. I do usually send Coop a text of my lineup and ask if there's anything I need to switch. :)

I looked into some jobs just a little bit, I applied to planet fitness and a couple other local gyms, but still haven't heard back. I'm still not sure about working or not though. I do remember being really overwhelmed last fall doing school, basketball, and work. I think that's partly why I ended up with that 3.3 GPA that term. I also thought about something like DoorDash, a way of making money while being able to control hours. I just don't know much about it and have heard that you don't always make too much with that. And I've looked into my part on the FAFSA application and I can't find the invite code that dad needs. Everything that I see says that I should have an invite code on the confirmation screen right after sending the invite email but there is no code on the screen so I don't know. I sent another invite but I bet it will ask dad for another code that I don't have.

We're only seven days away from the Centralia jamboree, the same one we did last year. If I remember correctly, I think the games were actually 28 minutes, our jamboree was the one that held 20 minute games. I don't know much of our schedule yet, but Stamme did tell me that our first scrimmage is against Lower Columbia, who won the whole NWAC last year... But I am really excited to get to playing. We don't really have a set backup point guard with Kobe gone. We have Jayden, who I don't know if he can run the point guard spot that well. But he is really good. There's also Lennon, who was a redshirt last year at Lane. He's a really good shooter but I still just don't know about him playing point guard. We'll see what happens when we play. We actually had a small change in our schedule, I'll send you the updated schedule. We moved our scrimmage against Corban on Nov. 5 up to Oct. 24, and it will be played at their gym. This way we can actually play against their top team and give us a little more of a break in that first week of November. I'm not sure that scrimmage will be streamed anywhere though...

Haley's been living at the new house for almost two weeks now. The first couple days were pretty hard on her as she's never lived away from home. But her roomates are really nice and she's been talking with them a lot. Their names are Maddie, Emma, and Charlotte. It's pretty interesting because all of their rooms are on the third floor, while Haley's is the only one on the first floor at the bottom. She was the last one to move in so maybe being lower is a little less appealing than a third floor bedroom but I think I like it a little more that way. The house doesn't have AC so her room being on the bottom probably keeps it from getting uncomfortably hot, and the stairs in the house are just pretty steep, I always feel like I'm so loud when stepping down them. The kitchen and the living room are on the second floor, where they have two fridges and two bathrooms. Last Friday, we went to the OSU football game with Charlotte and her boyfriend. Haley even got me an Oregon State shirt to wear haha. We only stayed for the first half, it wasn't the funnest thing in the world for us. Her house is close enough that she walks to classes, it being about a 15 minute walk. It would obviously be easier to drive but the parking permits are really expensive. She had her first day of observation hours at an elementary school last Monday. She got placed in a kindergarten class, which is right where she wanted to be. It went really well she said, the kids were all cute and well behaved, except for this little dude named Felix, who seemed like a little menace the way she described him. But she liked it a lot and some of the girls in the class were asking her if she could be there everyday. We went to a pumpkin patch yesterday, Yesteryear Farms. It was a lot of fun, went through a pretty long corn maze (that we solved pretty quick), looked at the gift shop, ate some apple cider donuts, and looked through the pumpkin patch. We were looking for some good pumpkins that we could take home to carve but that's when the rain started. It started pouring pretty hard and we got out of there quick with no pumpkins. Pics will be attached. We did still carve some pumpkins later that night, but we had to get them from Winco (no complaints from me). We went to Winco to pickup something to cook for dinner. But with Haley's food preferences there isn't many options. We ended up with a frozen pizza and some breadsticks from Franz, and a salad for her.

That's all I have for now, Love ya!
